Ma'yan: The Jewish Women's Project
About Ma'yan
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is Ma'yan up to these days?
So much! Having launched our Koach Banot: Girl Power! initiative to serve girls in the Jewish community, Ma'yan recently hosted our first major Koach Banot event—Strong Voices, Critical Choices: A Training Institute for Jewish Youth Professionals. This day-long conference was held at the JCC in Manhattan in October 2007. Pausing briefly to look behind us, in June 2007, Ma'yan celebrated our Bat Mitzvah with a party at the JCC (click here to view photos from the event). In the coming months, Ma'yan will release results from our Research Training Interns' survey of Jewish American teen girls as well as information on how to conduct participatory action research with girls in your own community. Meanwhile, Ma'yan staff members will be participating in several professional and academic conferences around the country. This fall, we will be launching the Ma’yan Research Training Internship 2008-2009. With a focus on the Bat Mitzvah experience, this new cohort of teen interns will be designing and conducting research to be presented in October 2009. Check back to our homepage for up to date information on this exciting program. Lastly, we will be launching an innovative new series of professional development workshops and networking events for Jewish youth professionals in Fall 2008.
We are proud to release our newly-redesigned website-which you are currently enjoying! We hope it will be a valuable resource for the Jewish community. We'll be updating our activities regularly on the new website, so check back often for breaking Ma'yan news.
Can I invite Ma'yan staff to speak or conduct training in my community?
By all means! Ma'yan staff is available to conduct training workshops for Jewish youth professionals and to consult with individuals and communal institutions on issues relevant to Jewish girls and gender dynamics in work with Jewish youth more generally. Click here to link to contact us.
Does Ma'yan still host feminist seders?
Ma'yan last held its community feminist seder in 2005. We are hopeful that other organizations will want to hold feminist seders for their constituents and continue to serve as a resource for individuals and groups interested in offering feminist seders in their communities.
Where can I order The Journey Continues: The Ma'yan Passover Haggadah?
The haggadah can be ordered directly from Ma'yan—online, by email, or by phone. Discounts are given for large orders.
What is Ma'yan's relationship to ritualwell.org?
Ritualwell, an incredible online resource for innovative and feminist lifecycle and holiday rituals, was developed in collaboration between Ma'yan and Kolot: The Center for Jewish Women's and Gender Studies at the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College. The website, www.ritualwell.org, was launched in 2001 and is maintained by Kolot.
Whatever happened to Ma'yan's journal, Journey?
We no longer publish our journal, but if you are looking for a specific article or issue we do have all the issues on file in our office.
